[16] And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,
(John 14:16 ESV)
The Messiah, Jesus, is God in the flesh and was tempted in every manner as you, yet He without sin. He felt pain; thirst and hunger but, lived a perfect life in order to show you how to live (Hebrews 4:15). You may say this was easy for Jesus for He and the Father are one, but He wanted you to know through the Scriptures that a Helper was going to be sent to support you and to help you fight the power of sin. This Helper is the third part of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit. As a believer in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to live in you and to empower you.
[17] even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. (John 14:17 ESV)
Even though the relationship between the Father, Son, and the Spirit is apparent, they are not the same. The focus of your prayer and worship is to the Father and Son. The work you do is by the power of the Holy Spirit living with-in you. It is the Helper that guided the writers of the Bible (2 Peter 1:20-21) as well as the Helper that leads you to understand the truth of the Bible (John 15:26). This same Helper brought you to the point of seeing your need of the Savior. If you will allow the Holy Spirit to have full control over your life then you will be helped in your service to others and the power to overcome temptation. It is in this that you discover peace and joy because the Holy Spirit will teach you the plan for your life and the truths of Jesus. The Holy Spirit also reveals to you the gift you have been given as a child of God. One great aspect of the Holy Spirit is the assurance of your salvation (2 Corinthians 1:22; 5:5) and it is this assurance that allows you to be confident in your salvation.
For Thought:
1. As you allow the Helper to control your life, does the work for the Kingdom become more joyous to you?
2. Discover the peace to be found in understanding the work of the Holy Spirit.
Today seek a quiet place to fellowship and worship God. Ask Him to show you the path to submission to Christ so the Power of the Holy Spirit can flow from you as you seek others in need of Christ. Be obedient to serve where you are needed, using the gift’s God gave to you.
