Missing A Friend

While sitting in the chair reading I sense a feeling of emptiness in the house. No longer is there the constant sound of barking each time one of the local kids walks past the window. There isn't the sound of soft grunting that told me somebody wanted to go outside. Not only to do his business but to check out the many sights and sounds that are made in the hot summer nights in South Georgia. Then I smile as I began thinking of my buddy, Reilly, who went to his rest on May 5th, 2013. It has been said many times that a man's best friend is his dog. Yes, I can say Reilly was my best buddy but truth be known he was a mama's boy. When his water bowl was empty he would nudge his bowl for fresh water. And I do mean fresh. It was filtered and refriged so whenever he wanted water it would be poured out cold and filtered. In Reilly's ten years with us he never ceased to amaze me. I will forever remember his friendship. How he would give comfort to Laurie whenever she didn't feel well. How he wanted to go everywhere I went. Reilly loved to go on hikes with us. The first time we took him on the AT we gave him the nickname "Trail Sniffer". It was a trail name that stuck with him. He is missed but not forgotten.
