2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. (Psalm 90:2 KJV)
The Dictionary tells us infinitude is a noun and means boundlessness or without boundary. When one speaks of the infinitude of God, it is speaking of His lack of beginning or ending. Before there was anything in the heavens or on earth, there was God. Before the creation of the Universe, there was God. As you look at Greek and Babylonian history, you find their gods had a beginning. With the one true God, the Bible tells you he always is. This is God, who when Moses asked at the burning bush, “Who should I say sent me” God said, “I AM that I AM” (Exodus 3:14). Unlike you or I, God is not bound by His creation and time has no meaning (2 Peter 3:8). He is unchanging through eternity while His creation evolves. Each year the seasons change with the falling of the leaves to become the dust of the earth. While you and the world are subject to many changes, know that God, in His infinitude never changes. God’s everlasting nature not only refers to His essence but also to His providence as He guides the flow of the universe to the point He has elected. You are a finite creature with a day of birth and a day to die (Ecclesiastes 3:2). You hunger and thirst while toiling through this life knowing the Father that is powerful enough to create the land and sea is powerful enough to keep you in His hand. Many today try to make God into the image they believe God is. This is not new since man has done this from the ages. However, it is a mistake to measure God by the understanding of the world. You must trust God in His Wisdom to know what is best for you for wisdom has been with God before the beginning (Proverbs 8:22-31) and He is always working in your interest.
For Thought:
1. Do you have a hard time thinking of God as having no beginning or end?
2. Do you understand the way’s of man (our thinking) is not the ways of God?
3. Does it help you find peace to know He who made you knows all that happens to you before you do?
While seeking your time alone with the Father, praise Him for being the great I AM. Sing unto Him your love and adoration. Let God know you are in wonder of His creation and the part you play in it. Ask God to teach you how to worship Him properly and the worship to be pleasing to Him.
This eternal and unchangeable steadfastness of God could not be perceived prior to the creation of the world, since there were as yet no eyes to be witnesses of it.
(John Calvin)
