By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. (Psalm 33:6 ESV)
The word Omnipotence comes from the Latin word, “Omni Potens”
which translates as all power and means God’s power is unlimited. God
in His Omnipotence, spoke and all creation in this vast universe came
into being. The Bible tells you in Genesis that God spoke and the
heavens were there. God spoke and the land was separated from the sea.
God spoke and light was separated from darkness. All this activity
happened because of the voice of God (Genesis 1). God’s providence that
is seen in the Word holds all creation together. Some believe God
created, and then left the creation alone to watch it evolve without His
hand in place. How can one truly believe such a thing? God’s hand
firmly keeps the earth in its proper orbit as well as the stars in their
position. Placed close to the Sun and the earth burns up, too far away
and it freezes. As you look at all that is around you and see the beauty
of the trees and smell the wonderful scent from the flowers, you can be
assured God’s power to form all there is, comes from the Word. The
Bible tells you Jesus Christ was with God from the beginning and is the
Word that sustains this beautiful creation (see John 1:1-3). Understand
that God is sovereign in all he does. He does not control at times then
at other times not control or sometimes rule with absolute power but at
other times not rule absolutely. In the Omnipotence of God, His power is
unlimited. You are taught in school the laws of Physics, for example
what goes up must come down (law of gravity) or the speed of light is
186,282 miles per second and the earth is eight and one half light
minutes from the Sun. Yet, these laws do not pertain to God even though
it is He that created them. Because God’s power is unlimited, He is not
trapped by distance or time. Knowing this should affirm your faith in
knowing God is in complete control of events that happen to you on a
day-to-day basis as well as the events of this world and beyond. You
have the assurance that nothing happens that God is not aware of, even
evil.
For Thought:
1. Do you understand the strength in the power of God?
2. Are
you aware it takes you a certain amount of time to go from point A to
point B, yet for Our Creator time and distance have no meaning?
In
your quiet time with God today ask Him to help you comprehend the
concept of the Omnipotence of God. That you may understand His power is
absolute and never changes. The world tells you the universe was created
in a certain amount of time; yet, the Bible tells you God spoke all
creation into being. Pray the Father to give you the faith to believe in
the concepts written today, as you understand how lowly your position
is when compared to God’s position.
By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. (Hebrews 11:3 NIV)
