Jesus Is My Resting Place

“My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have led them astray, turning them away on the mountains. From mountain to hill they have gone. They have forgotten their fold. (Jeremiah 50:6 ESV)

Many times, you have read the newspaper or seen news on the television that tells of a church or political leader who has fallen into sin. Their walk became stale and the temptations of this world over came them. Seeing this may have caused you to become saddened and disappointed in those whom you put your trust. Maybe it is someone close to you that has disappointed you or lied to you and you begin to feel betrayed and depressed. “What’s the use in trying?” you say. The failings of civil and ecclesiastical leaders can lead you to a point of giving up and losing focus if you put your trust in man rather than God. Your disappointment may even get you to the point of discontinuing your fellowship in church or time in communion with the Father. Kind soul, know that God in His mercy has extended His grace to you by calling you to His Son. Put your trust in the loving arms of Jesus, and you will find peace. Where once you were lost, the Great Shepherd has found you and brought you to Himself. This world will pull and tug you to join in its failings but in Christ, you will find your rest as you think of being forever with Him in eternity (Hebrews 4:3 and Deuteronomy 12:9). You will then taste the blessings of Jesus and the sweetness of the Living Water (John 7:38). Remember in this world you will find no rest, only in Christ is rest found. As you read the hymn written by Helen H. Lemmel may you receive comfort in the words.

Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus
O soul, are you weary and troubled? No light in the darkness you see? There’s light for A look at the Savior, and life more abundant and free! Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow
Strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.

For Thought:
1.    Can you recall a time when you were let down by someone? Do you remember how you felt?
2.    Can you believe that Jesus will bring you into His fold and give you comfort?

As you think about the trials you face in life, ask God to show you the path you must take to fully trust Jesus with your life. Pray for wisdom and guidance in walking that path so others may see Jesus in you and they too may seek the same living water you have received.

Let my soul be at the rest again, for the Lord has been good to me. (Psalm 116:7 NLT)

What is our resting-place, beloveds? We have only one answer, I am sure. “We who have believed have entered into rest,” but our rest is in Jesus Christ himself. Charles Spurgeon, “A Sore Grievance,” a sermon published October 1, 1914.
