Dr. Martin Luther was a big factor in the history of the church as he understood the doctrine of grace. The purchasing of indulgences to free ones ancestors from purgatory and its abuse in funding the building of St. Peters in Rome began the road for Martin Luther to a greater faith. Knowing it is "Sola Fide" that brings one to Christ and not Works plus Faith as the Roman Catholic Church taught began a split in doctrine that brought about the Protestant Reformation.
